Over het evenement

On August 1st, it will be 350 years since a devastating summer storm caused the entire nave of the Dom Church to collapse. Exactly 350 years later, TouchLab, the research and development team at Insomnio ensemble, presents the commemorative concert "The Great Storm." Four large cathedral organs from England, Germany, and Utrecht play together and simultaneously the work "Tempestas in Memoriam" specially written for this occasion by the English composer James Wood. Thanks to the software TouchLabTERMINAL developed by Insomnio, the organ sounds are played live and without any delay in the Dom Church.

Amidst organ pipes and speakers in a quadraphonic setup, you will experience all aspects of the storm in the Dom: the silence that precedes it, the rising wind, the tornado, the lightning, the thunder, and ultimately the collapse of the nave, with a hopeful conclusion from the bell tower, which miraculously survived the storm.

The concert will be live-streamed at www.ensembleinsomnio.nl/digital-concerthall. For an immersive experience, we recommend using headphones.

Featuring: Jan Hage (Dom Church, Utrecht), Dominik Susteck (St. Antonius Church, Düsseldorf), Darius Battiwala (Blackburn Cathedral), and Karolina Juodelyte (Epiphanienkirche, Berlin). Conducted by Ulrich Pöhl (Insomnio).
